West Island Citizen Advocacy will be offering a series of courses which are free and open to the community at large in the autumn of 2010.
These courses will take place at our offices at 68 Prince Edward in Pointe-Claire on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to noon or from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Oct. 1: The Power of Grief: This workshop will increase you knowledge about grief in general, discuss helpful and not helpful ways of communicating with grieving people and provide the opportunity for you to explore personal thoughts and feelings, reactions about loss and grief. In English only. Dawn Cruchet BN, M Ed, CT.

Oct. 1, 15, 22: Assertiveness Skills - Intermediate Level Part II: This is a three-part workshop that will focus on helping you see where you are on the assertiveness scale and that will help you to see how you could use assertiveness skills in real life situations. In English with French questions. With Psychologist Suzanne Desparois.

Oct. 29: Helping the Intellectually Handicapped: This course will help you to better support your protégé or family member who has an intellectual handicap or autism. What types of behaviours are typical for this group of people and how should you deal with them? With Tracy Wrech and Alison Rollins from WIAIH, a centre that supports people with intellectual handicaps and autism.

Nov. 5 & 12: Improving your Thinking Skills: Improving your thinking skills will help us improve our day to day life, help us develop our planning and decision-making skills, help us better avoid and manage stress, create more satisfying personal and professional relationships - and more. In English only with Milton Dawes, Ambassador at large, Institute of General Semantics.

Nov. 5: Depression and seniors: Learn about depression in seniors and how to help a senior with a depression problem. Learn the best ways to support a caregiver, family member or friend. In English with French questions. With Psychologist Suzanne Desparois.
